As part of the 5th Annual Jim White Memorial Golf Tournament, held in Warkworth, participants were asked to bring food for the food bank. Mr. Keith Telfer organises this golf tournament each year in honour of Jim White. Jim was a member of the Colborne Legion, an avid golfer, husband, father, grandfather, friend, comrade in arms and Airman, he joined the military in 1973 and was posted in Trenton after completing his training in 1974. During his career he made tours to Egypt, Golan Heights and Germany.
This year the 7 Hills Community Pantry was the recipient of 2 large boxes of food and a cash donation.
Thank you veterans. Here Jan Findlay and Carolyn Lee are sorting the food to be distributed.
Food Banks Canada has released its annual HungerCount report:
“In March 2014, 841,191 people received food from a food bank in Canada. Food bank use increased by 1% compared to the same period in 2013. It is dismaying that the number of people utilizing this service remains 25% higher than in 2008. This means that each and every month, 170,000 more people walk through the door of a food bank than was the case before the economic downturn.”

HTM Insurance has made a generous donation to local food banks in Northumberland County. This year, 7 Hills Community Pantry in Warkworth and Campbellford Fare Share Food Bank were the lucky recipients of the prize steer from the Norwood Fair. “This donation will really help our food banks provide a number of meals of real substance to our clients.” says Martin Hare of 7 Hills Community Pantry. Hilts Butcher Shop kindly donated their services to process the meat. Hilts which is located in Norwood, is open to the public Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Many thanks to HTM Insurance for their support!

“Now in its second year, the Rural Kids Grant Program, an initiative of the Grocery Foundation and the Ontario Association of Food Banks, provides food banks in rural Ontario with an opportunity to increase the amount of fresh, healthy food available for children in their community.” Ontario Association of Food Banks
The Pantry is very pleased to have received a grant in 2014 which we have used to set up a Brown Bag Program to supplement children’s lunches with nutritious food items. Families with children who visit the Pantry will receive a brown bag for each child, containing items such as cheese, fruit cups, granola bars, and chocolate milk.
Thanks to the OAFB and the Grocery Foundation for sponsoring this program!
