HTM Insurance has made a generous donation to local food banks in Northumberland County. This year, 7 Hills Community Pantry in Warkworth and Campbellford Fare Share Food Bank were the lucky recipients of the prize steer from the Norwood Fair. “This donation will really help our food banks provide a number of meals of real substance to our clients.” says Martin Hare of 7 Hills Community Pantry. Hilts Butcher Shop kindly donated their services to process the meat. Hilts which is located in Norwood, is open to the public Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Pantry is very pleased to have received a grant in 2014 which we have used to set up a Brown Bag Program to supplement children’s lunches with nutritious food items. Families with children who visit the Pantry will receive a brown bag for each child, containing items such as cheese, fruit cups, granola bars, and chocolate milk.

The Pantry is pleased to announce that in January, our membership with the Ontario Association of Food Banks was upgraded from affiliate to full member status. This is an important change which makes the Pantry eligible for various grants and programs offered through the OAFB, including a transportation grant under its rural support program to help with gas costs currently being absorbed by volunteers.
Every day, from November 1 until December 31 you can go the the Kraft website, www.kraftfoodforfamilies.ca, and add your name to the list. Select Northumberland Food For All and they will get $0.50 for each submission. There is a limit of one submission per person, per day, regardless of the email address used.
We would appreciate your help in spreading information about the Kraft Food for Families initiative which is designed to provide donations to participating food banks across Canada. For example, last year the Salvation Army Food Bank in Owen Sound, Ontario, received 23,232 online signatures and the $10,000 bonus donation! In our area, the Northumberland Food for All Warehouse provides over 50% of the food distributed by the 7 Hills Community Pantry to clients in Warkworth.
